You'd think that having happy-go-lucky messages pushed on to people will provide a quick fix to the problems that they and the world faces but the truth is that it couldn't be more far off.
Everyday we are told, "Be grateful", "Be happy", "Smile more", "Fake it till you make it", and surely the person saying that means good, right? Well, I hate to break it to you but all that fake positivity is exactly that, FAKE!
I'm here to tell you that it's okay to not be okay, to fail, to not have an absolute clue of what it is that you want to do with your life. You're failing grad school? Great. Your 4-year relationship just ended? absolutely fantastic! You are at rock bottom and you have to start over? That sounds good!
Again, hear me out, hear me out... I'm saying hell yes to embracing negatives and bad things happening, you know why? Because it is hard for a situation that broke you to define you if you accept it. The truth is that once you accept a situation, allow yourself to go through the motions, cry it out, fight it out, talk it out, there comes a beautiful rainbow at the end of the horizon.
Going through the most, and LITERALLY going through it without coddling yourself, without hiding from reality, from denying it, from shielding yourself from it means you're more powerful than you could have ever imagined. Acceptance is the beginning of healing.
The truth is, life will always do what life does best, making you go through it! That doesn't mean though that you have to be imprisoned by your circumstances and go through this journey in fear and anguish.
Like every superhero movie, life can be whatever you make of it; a villain or a hero, it just depends on the steps you're willing to take to get on with your life. Are you going to drink it away, engage in destructive behaviour, or will you ALLOW yourself to go through it, accepting that it doesn't get easier and come up at the end like a butterfly at the end of a cocoon stage?
You decide...
